This is old news (from last week) but I only heard about it yesterday, and just looked up details.

In Pennsylania, State Senator Daylin Leach (a Democrat from Montgomery County - the same county where Ted and I got married) has said that he will introduce a bill to establish full and equal marriage rights for same-sex couples in Pennsylvania, including recognition of such marriages performed in other states.

Sen. Leach’s bill would not require churches or clergy to perform or recognize any marriage that does violence to their doctrine. But it would guarantee any homosexual couple the right to a marriage license and would grant full legal recognition to any such union.

No, I don’t much think it will pass - but as a third-generation native Pennsylvanian, nothing would make me prouder of my home state than being wrong about that.

Having the bill introduced is a big step; here’s hoping that my state step further, deciding not to tolerate falling behind in the civil rights granted to its citizens.

I’m going to a Pennsylvania wedding this August. It would lend an extra sweetness to the occasion to find that all state citizens had the right to be as happy as my brother and his wife-to-be will be on that day.
