From a few people, notably [livejournal.com profile] wordweaverlynn, a meme about basic assumptions. This is stuff I assume anyone reading my journal already knows, but actually might not because I haven't necessarily explained it all here.

1. I don't write here much. This is because my main blog is over at Dichroic Reflections. At that site and its predecessor (via the Older Archives link) there are entries going back to March 2001 in a quantity that best be described as logorrheac. (Though I've been writing a little less lately due to extreme busy-ness.)

2. I use the LJ for memes, rare locked posts, and even rarer fiction and poetry. I don't consider myself a writer of either, but sometimes they ambush me.

3. In geographic terms the history of my life from 1967-2006 goes: Born and raised in Northeast Philadelphia, moved across town for college (Penn), moved to Houston after college and couldn't escape for 7 years (in the course of which I did pick up an excellent husband though), lived in Phoenix for ten years.

4. Ref the husband mentioned above, we've been together for 17 years, actually married for 14 or them. People told us that being legally married makes a big difference, but we didn't find that it made any at all, except for the convenience of being able to use words like "wife", "husband", and "spouse". I usually refer to him here as Rudder, but sometimes I use his actual name in locked entries.

5. Yes, it's a happy marriage. I get annoyed with him all the time, but that's mre about my capacity for annoyance than any failing of his.

6. There's only one of him and one of me. We are monogamous not out of principle but from general misanthropy, a lack of social skills, and a lack of patience for complicated situations or anything requiring extra work.

7. A year ago we had the opportunity to move abroad for a few years. We are now coming to the end of a year in the Netherlands and preparing for two years in Taiwan.

8. As part of this, I was able to get a job with Rudder's company. It was a good job, very much like what I had been doing at my previous company, but it made a lot of our moving situation work-related so I probably never did explain it all that well. I've just started a new position, same company, at the Taiwan site, though I'll do a bit of training back in the Netherlands first.

9. We row competitively. We're also pilots, but I got a bit fed up with flying while working on an instrument rating a couple of years ago, and we haven't been able to fly in Europe anyway. The other things I spend enough time on that I end up writing about them are reading, knitting, and beadwork. I don't consider reading a hobby, though, more a default state.

10. I have one sibling, on LJ as [livejournal.com profile] alexjay. He sometimes thinks better of me than I deserve, mostly because we haven't lived together since I moved away for college when he was about 12.
