I notice that I've posted comments twice today, in two <a href='http://jonquil.livejournal.com/605383.html?thread=6660295#t6660295">different</a> places, about how the struggles against prejudice have affected my life not directly but through their effect on my parents (positively and majorly in one case, from my mom's efforts not to let me be limited by my sex, negatively and minorly in the other due to an estrangement in the early, angry days of the civil rights struggle. And maybe even that negative one had the positive effort of raising my awareness a little). Ripples spread. The life you change may be your kid's. Or someone else's kid's.
