My Sherlock Holmes / Potterverse story is up here. This all happens about a hundred years before Harry birth, so none of the characters from the HP books are alive yet (with the exception of Nicholas Flamel, but he's not in it). It's a sequel to Watson's Task. I've rated this one T (teen) for a bit of gore (nongratuitous, I think) and attempted creepiness (attempted on my part; the character in question isn't particularly trying). It takes place in late 1888, shortly before the Canonical Valley of Fear.

This one's got all kinds of things I hadn't done before. It has a real plot, not just a vignette with implied backstory, also at fanfiction.net, but I stole the basic of it from Montgomery - she stole from herself all over the place, so I figured it added verisimilitude for a fanfic). I've never tried a mystery before, so trying to figure out how obvious to make the clues was rough. I wrote chunks of this out of order, which I hadn't done before because you need something long enough to *have* an order first. I glossed over the deduction process because it would have been hard to show, then realized Conan Doyle did exactly the same thing, leaving me to wonder if he did it for the same reasons. This one has actual action in it, not just dialog. I pulled together Holmes, the Wizarding world, an obscure bit of Jewish mythology, events current in the 1880s, and a throwaway reference to Arsene Lupin, in the kitchen-sink style that typifies not only my cooking but also the first fiction story, I attempted, back in around 11th grade. However, as in cooking, and entirely unlike that early story, I think I managed to keep it to flavors that worked together and to use restraint in the amounts of each.

Many thanks to [livejournal.com profile] synaesthete7 and [livejournal.com profile] batwrangler for beta reading and comments that helped with flow as well as the finding of actual mistakes. (Sorry, Kiwi, I couldn't wait :-) If you happen to have spotted any other mistakes, though, I can always make changes.)
