I always did like that saying. I interpreted "conn a ship" to be equivalent to flying an airplane. As far as spaceships go, the closest I've come is flying the Fixed-Base Space Shuttle astronaut trainer at the Johnson Space Center (the real one, not the ones in the visitor center. I got to ride in the Motion-Base once, but not to fly it.
