(A French-Canadian acquaintance of mine often refers to hearing "a good new". I can never bring myself to correct her because it's just so cute.)

1. Thanksgiving may not be a huge affair or a foodie's delight, but this year there will be Thanksgiving. Even a cute little turkey!

2. This from Matociquala on learning new things. It describes rowing perfectly, even though she's not a rower.

3. Apparently the bro officially has a girlfriend. I'm finding it hard not to project into futurities, because some of the possible outcomes of this would make us all so happy. But I won't (or at least will keep projections to myself).

4. From the further info we've gathered, our friend who was in the car accident will make it - healing will be long and painful, involving lots of surgeries, but it doesn't sound as if survival is in doubt.

5. Sunday night I finished the first sock of the current pair (Knitty's Back to Basics) and last night embarked on the second. It's a fun pattern (I modified it a bit by adding some ribbing at the sides of the arches) and I love this yarn.

6. My uncle is stlil not reacting adversely to his chemo drugs, and Dad seems to be doing OK after a fall and resulting hospital stay. I called today and he sounds a lot better - less vague - than when I talked to him last week.

7. Thanksgiving always reminds me of (and gives me an excuse to sing, not that I need one) one of my favorite songs ever, Bob Franke's Thanksgiving Song:
What can you do with your days but work and hope,
Let your dreams bind your work to your play.
What can you do with each moment of your life, but love 'til you've loved it away.
Love 'til you've loved it away.

8. Blue Moon Fiber Arts has the most gorgeous new Raven colorways out. Perfect for dress socks, though I think they'd be great in a sweater too. Not that I need sock yarn in any immediate way, but if they could handle my country on their website, I'd have ordered some already. (Never mind, I need to make a wishlist for Chanukah/Christmas anyway. First item! AHEM, family members: send me sock yarn, someday I'll send it back as socks.)

9. After sending out a big change-of-address emailing, I've heard back from a bunch of friends I hadn't talked to in a while.

10.Apple soda is actually quite tasty - like apple juice mixed with ginger ale.

11. There is such a thing as a free lunch, at least at my company. I'm sure I will eventually get sick of bok choy, which they have every day. But not yet.

12. We found real popcorn in the grocery store! In bulk! (Come to think of it, very timely - popcorn to Thanksgiving. Squanto would approve.)
