AKICILJ: a brief shopping question

When you go through Dutch museums and look at the old still-lifes, over and over from artist after artist, you see the same glass, like the one in this painting. (They’re from the days before forks; those bumps on the thick stem were to provide more traction for greasy fingers.)

Since we do need to get glasses and dishes for the new house, Ted was saying that it would be fun to get ones like that. Anyone have any idea where I could find reproductions? I checked the Rijksmusem, but there’s no shop on their webpage.

Historical Glassworks seems to have some not entirely unlike what you linked (listed as under 17th century period, described as "the greatest beer glass design ever". He calls it a "Roemer" and searching that term seems to bring up a lot more?)

(I know the lead glassblower there as a friend-of-a-friend through the SCA.)

Thanks! I gave them a call; now I just have to decide if I can spend that much (I think the price is fair and reasonable for a unique hand-made piece, which is what those are; I'm just not sure if I can afford something quite that special for everyday glasses.) Knowing the name helps a lot.

Yeah, I love his work but I've never been able to justify buying any for myself. Some of the google results on the name showed modern, mass-produced stuff, though, so you should probably be able to get something at less than craftsman price.

(also, if you want something really cheap - you can probably find a set of Burger King LotR tie-in glasses at thrift-store prices. I am amused to discover that those appear to match an authentic Rennaissance design principle! I have a set, and despite the kitsch, they are a really practical design to drink from.)
