Assorted Memery
Jan. 18th, 2006 04:37 pmFive weird things about me
1. After thinking I was 5'1" for years, somewhere in my thirties I suddenly began to measure 5'2" or even 5'2.5" (And believe me, I checked several places.) Though just recently I checked and the scale said 5'1" again, so I'm beginning to think they vary more than you'd think.
2. I have never been to Hawaii. I may be the only American who went to Cairns, Australia, and when told it looked a lot like Maui couldn't venture an opinion.
3. I own an entire tall bookcase's worth of children's and young adults' books, most acquired well after I was out of the intended demographic. They're there because I read them, not from any academic interest. Actually, I don't think this is weird, but some people do.
4. I tend to bounce back and forth between long and very short (like, 1" and less) hair. Right now it's a few inches past my shoulders and I'm still growing it, because I haven't gotten tired of it yet.
5. Pretzels are a major part of my diet, preferably Snyder's of Hanover's sourdough ones.

1. Snyder's pretzels, see above (wouldn't be "guilty" if I didn't eat quite so many)
2. Skipping workouts and sleeping all the way to 6.
3. ... or even later on weekends.
4. Expensive salon shampoos and department-store makeup.
5. Buying books (as with item #1, it's the quantity, not the act itself).
(Why was that so much easier than compiling the five weird things, I wonder?)

Name five (5) Albums that changed your life:
I didn't think there were any, until I thought about it.
1. Stan Rogers, "Fogarty's Cove"
2. "Free to Be You and Me"
3. "Fiddler on the Roof" (my parents' - probably the original B'way cast)
I have other favorites, but I wouldn't say they changed anything for me.
Name five (5) Songs that changed your life:
1. Stan Rogers, "Forty-Five Years"
2. Unchained Melody, not so much for itself but because we danced to it at our wedding
3. "Far From the Home I Love", from Fiddler on the Roof
4. The Beatles, "Dear Prudence"
5. Simon and Garfunkel, "Scarborough Fair"
Name five (5) Films that changed your life:
There aren't any.
Name five (5) Books that changed your life:
1. Louisa May Alcott "Little Women"
2. Dorothy L. Sayers "Busman's Holiday"
3. The Poky Little Puppy
4. Robert Heinlein, "Number of the Beast" (Not saying it's his best or anything, but in fact it was the one that got me reading Heinlein, and much followed from that.)
5. The Danny Dunn books
It occurs to me that it would be much more interesting to ask people why or who those particular things had such effect on them.
